During soccer season I was running around the track and twisted my ankle. 4 days later i went to the doctors but one doctor told me not to play, and the other said it was fine until it hurt. What and who should i follow. I have been told that i will end up crippled, and that no recruiters will even look at me, is this true? I dont know what to do with this swollen ankle. When will it go back to normal?
Yesterday was the first game of my soccer season. We ended up scoring in the last 60 seconds and it was amazing. The issue was I only played for a total of 20 minutes for the whole game. I played about 15 in the first half and only 5 in the entire second half. It killed my confidence as a soccer player. This is my first year on a premier team. I don't expect to be the best or even a starter. But this was the one time where I was actually feeling good about my decisions and slightly confident in this game. I just don't know what to do???
It sounds as though you should talk to your coach as soon as possible. Im going to start high school soon and I know Im still young but I've been wondering when should I start worrying for college? I really want to get a scholorship to play for University of Florida for soccer but I dont know when I should try and get noticed, I dont want to seem to eager and stuff but I also dont want to NOT get noticed! My soccer coach is always busy and he/she never has time to answer my questions about how to get noticed.
To begin, we wish you wouldn't "worry" about college, but think about it as an exciting prospect for yourself! As for your question, if you are interested in a specific program, then find out as much as you can about it. Sign up for camps and clinics held by the school and let the coaches know that you want to play for them in college. Eagerness is a good thing in this situation, and you cannot be shy about marketing yourself. You'll have to stand out in the crowd when you attend the camps and clinics, so make sure that you have what it takes to play at the division and in the program you are looking into. Let the coaches know what tournaments you will be playing in and ask them to observe you playing. As a general rule, coaches are looking for stand-out players, and often times even stand-outs don't make the cut because the program doesn't need someone with that player's particular qualifications at that point in time. Also, pay attention to your schoolwork, because it helps coaches alot when the prospects they are interested in are clearly qualified academically. I am trying out for soccer in a couple of months and I have started running a mile 2 or 3 times a week.... But the team I'm trying out for is really good and I dont know what kind of drills to do to prepare. A girl from the team just told me to dribble and shoot, what should I do?
I am 15 and have been playing volleyball for one year, this season starts my second. I really love the sport and I have gotten as good as some of the girls who have been playing their whole lives. Currently I am playing for my school team and then the club/travel team starts later in the fall. Playing at the collegiate level is a huge dream for me but I am not sure what to do. Any advice?
Playing club volleyball is a great first step to reaching your goal to play volleyball at the collegiate level. Just as with anything you do, practice make perfect. Okay maybe not perfect, but really good. I would suggest playing as much as you can, by playing in summer leagues, playing with friends at the park, and/or going to college camps and clinics.
You should ask your high school and club coaches what you can work on outside of practice to get better. Every day after school and before volleyball practice I did blocking footwork along my garage door. Since I did the extra work outside of practice I became one of the best blockers on my club team, and then one of the best blockers on my college team. If you want to be great at volleyball, I suggest you work on skills outside of practice. That extra effort will definitely pay off!!
When you are a junior in high school you will want to make a list of colleges that you would want to play for. Once you have your list, you will want to e-mail the head coaches on your list and tell them you are interested in playing for them and let them know what tournaments your team is going to be playing at. If your Mom or Dad has a video camera, have them tape your games, so you can make a highlight video of yourself. You should send this highlight video to the coaches on your college list.
In the spring of your junior year, you will want to narrow down your potential college list again, and choose two or three camps of the colleges that you want to attend. College camps and clinics are the best places for coaches to see how you play and get to know you. The NCAA has very strict recruiting rules, which make it very difficult for coaches to talk to players in high school. By going to these camps, the coaches can talk to you as much as they want if the camp is at their school, which is a plus for you and the coach.
USA Volleyball has just come out with a recruiting tool, which helps players that are interested in playing volleyball in college get in touch with coaches and create professional highlight videos. I would suggest checking out the USA Volleyball website to learn more about it.
Most important, make sure you are having fun and loving playing volleyball, because in order to play volleyball or any other sport in college, you have to LOVE it! Good luck!!
I have been the only goalkeeper on my soccer team for two years and now a new goalkeeper has came in, i am better then she is but she has made it clear that she wants to play half or more then half of the game. i train alot harder then her. i know my coach and he will try to play us equal times. what should i do .......ps she is really cocky and she and i would be ok if she wants 1/3 of the game to a little less thten a half ..... she plays feild too
I am in 8th grade but I am in so much. I play the oboe and I have a very strict teacher who can tell even a little bit if I didn't practice. In school I am on the Volleyball, Cross-Country team just right now and 2 other volleyball teams that practice at night. I'm only into the second week of school but its getting so hard just to go on! I am in all advanced classes and have to come in early for Early- Bird P.E. just so I don't have to drop band or art! I don't feel like I can talk to the counselor because my parents know her, and I know it would seem weird, but I just fell comfortable talking to her. I go to my school volleyball practice then right after I go to another one, by the time I get home its around 9 o'clock and I still have to practice my oboe for 1 and a half hours! I'd just really like someone to give a nice tip or something.
We're not exactly sure what you are asking, but it sounds as though you are a bit overwhelmed. Is there something that you can give up to provide yourself with a little more "down time"? Sports should be fun and provide an outlet of physical activity; but do you need to be on 3 different volleyball teams? Maybe you can spread out your activities over time. Please try to talk to your parents about feeling overwhelmed and see what you might do to adjust your schedule. Perhaps they can tell the oboe teacher that they want her to cut the workload and expectations back, at least for the time being. As far as talking to the counselor, you should be able to talk to her confidentially, and you can certainly ask her if she will respect that before you tell her exactly what is on your mind. ok so i have volleyball in a month. what should i eat and what kind of conditioning should i do.
It is great that you are thinking ahead and preparing for your volleyball season. Since you want to feel good while you condition and practice volleyball, I recommend snacking on healthy foods, like fruits and vegetables instead of chips and candy. A good snack to have in your backpack and gym bag is trail mix. Just put your favorite nuts, dried fruit, and m&m's in a plastic ziploc bag and you have a yummy snack! Try to stay away from fast food restaurants; I know they are fast, cheap, and super tasty, but your body will be very happy that you stayed away.
Now onto conditioning: I am not a conditioning coach, but here are a few things I did to prepare for my volleyball seasons. I tried to run for 20 minutes at least three times a week. I hated running, so when I ran, I listened to music on my ipod to make the run go by faster. The 20 minute runs will help prepare you for long rallies and long drills at practice. I also went to my local high school and ran sprints on the football field. I used the lines on the field to measure the distance of my sprints. Since there is a lot of change of direction in volleyball, I would recommend doing some change of direction sprints.
